The FIPSAS 2023 Italian Fly Casting Championships took place on 23 and 24 September 2023 at the splendid ‘Green Events‘ location near Milan – covering six international regulation ICSF disciplines over two days.
The two Spey 15′ and 18′ disciplines took place on Saturday, with difficult weather conditions which, especially in the 18′ discipline, limited the athletes’ performances with a predominant head wind.
On Sunday the other four disciplines (Trout Distance, Sea Trout Distance, Salmon Distance, Accuracy) took place with two heats divided into the morning and the afternoon. The strong humidity in the morning had a negative impact on the distance competitions and had a small improvement in the afternoon but with almost total no wind.
Stefano De Martini won gold in Trout Distance – with the longest cast of the day in that discipline (a huge 38.09m in no wind conditions) with a rod based on a new CTS Competition Cast blank. The 9’0″ blank design named ‘TD’ specifically targets the Trout Distance discipline.
Mauro Panzeri, Stefano’s training partner, won gold in the Sea Trout Distance (longest cast 43.50m) again with a rod based on the CTS Competition Cast blank (9’6″- 35g).
Stefano De Martini also took bronze in Sea Trout Distance (longest cast 42.29m) casting with a rod based on the CTS Competition Cast blank (10’0″- 27g) (now 20g).
Congratulations from all the team at CTS, Stefano and Mauro!
